ORGANIZING

At Abortion Action Missouri, we know that winning stigma free abortion access is going to take all of us.

The primary culprit for bans on abortion in our state are a small group of politicians who are obsessed with their own power and control at the expense of our lives, bodies, and futures. In order to advance their own ambition, these politicians worked to ban abortion for decades.

Even though politicians tried to take away the legal right to abortion, we’re not letting them take our freedom or our power.

We know that when people take action together, we can overcome the politicians who try to control us and govern our state on our terms.

  • We build our movement by talking to our neighbors, listening to the needs and dreams of our community, and educating people on abortion
  • We bring people together to elect politicians at the local, state and federal level
  • We show up and take action to hold politicians accountable and pass laws on our terms

clinic support

For almost 40 years, Abortion Action Missouri has facilitated the only Clinic Escort program in the St. Louis metro region to support direct patient access to essential abortion care.

Our volunteer clinic escorts provide those walking into clinics, whether patients, companions or staff, with a physical sense of security and a calming presence from the moment they exit their vehicle until they are safely in the clinic.

Currently, AAM provides clinic escorts to three St. Louis-area clinics. Escorts provide a sense of calm and support to patients facing anti-abortion harassment.

To become an AAM Clinic Escort, interested volunteers must pass a screening and attend a two hour in-person or virtual training.

Abortion Action Missouri also hosts a Community Engagement Escort Training for those who want to take their escorting skills further. Community Engagement Escorts are often requested to provide a safe presence for events, political rallies, and assistance at the Capitol. Those who wish to become a Community Engagement Escort must have already taken AAM’s Clinic Escort Training.

Storytelling

Our stories are the most powerful tool we have to fight abortion stigma, change minds, and build power across our state.

From sharing their personal abortion stories in the media or at rallies, testifying before the Missouri legislature on experiences accessing birth control or relying on Medicaid, to engaging lawmakers one-on one to educate them on their experiences as community birth workers and doulas, Abortion Action Missouri storytellers show up.

Abortion Action Missouri hosts regular trainings for individuals to learn the art of storytelling, workshop together or engage one-on-one with our team to practice your story.

If you’re interested in sharing your story, email Maggie Olivia, Abortion Storyteller and Director of Policy and External Affairs.

Electoral Advocacy

Electoral Advocacy

The Abortion Action Missouri Political Action Committee(PAC) works through the electoral process to elect pro-abortion candidates at every level of government. Money raised by our PAC goes directly to candidates so they have the resources to win and fight on behalf of all Missourians.

In 2024, Abortion Action Missouri PAC endorsed 108 pro-abortion candidates with 38 winning their elections.

RESEARCH

Abortion Action Missouri Foundation is the research and education arm of our movement. The foundation conducts research on issues relevant to abortion access and reproductive freedom, often working in partnership with academic institutions, community partners, and government bodies to release the results.

Economic Impact: Abortion bans cost Missourians billions of public and private dollars, impacting individuals, families, employers and the state and local governments.

In 2021, Abortion Action Missouri Foundation- then NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri Foundation- together with the Offices of The Mayor of St. Louis City and the Treasurer of St. Louis City released two reports detailing the economic impact of bans:

In 2022, Abortion Action Missouri Foundation released a groundbreaking report on the state of sex education in Missouri. Read it below!
