HOW TO SPOT AN ANTI-ABORTION CENTER
(FAKE CLINIC)

COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTERS

WHAT IS A CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTER (CPC)?

Crisis pregnancy centers, or CPC’s, are religious-based fake clinics that attempt to persuade people out of obtaining abortion care. They use a variety of tactics to do this including but not limited to: guilt, fear, lying, posing as medical professionals, and trying to physically stop patients driving into an abortion clinic.

WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF CPC'S?

Because most, if not all, of CPC employees are not medical providers they are not legally required to keep your personal identifiable information confidential. Your name, address, pregnancy status, and more can be shared with other religious/anti-choice organizations.

HOW CAN I TELL IF AN ORGANIZATION IS A CPC?

The best way to find out if an organization is an anti-choice fake clinic is by asking directly if they provide referrals/resources for abortion care. Most CPC’s will avoid answering this question directly, however, so the language on their website can be used to determine their true motivation.

WHAT DO CPC'S LOOK LIKE IN MISSOURI?

CPC’s and their employees masquerade as health care facilities/providers (like wearing scrubs!) but often do not employ licensed medical staff, do not offer medical care and are not subject medical ethics standards/boards. Often, they are located in close proximity to actual abortion care providers in attempts to confuse patients about where their appointment is.

In Missouri, these fake clinics receive more than 8 BILLION dollars a year in the state budget and in 2023 the state hired an anti-abortion marketing agency to flood Missourians with anti-abortion propaganda and disinformation with our own tax dollars.

WHAT RESOURCES DO CPC'S FALSELY CLAIM TO PROVIDE?

  • Abortion care
  • Food pantries
  • Transportation
  • Housing
  • Prenatal care
  • Diapers
  • General medical care
