Missouri: Tomorrow, June 24th, 2026 marks 4 years since the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health that overturned the limited federal abortion protections of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Missouri politicians utilized the trigger law passed in 2019 to ban abortion within 20 minutes of the decision coming down, making Missouri the first state in the nation to totally ban abortion.

In 2023, Missourians initiated the citizen’s petition process to ask Missourians whether abortion should be banned by a vote of the people. After collecting more than 380,000 signatures across each of Missouri’s 114 counties, politicians were forced to place the question of abortion on the ballot in 2024.

In 2024, Missouri became the first state to end an abortion ban by a vote of the people, and established the Right to Reproductive Freedom in our State Constitution. Last week, June 18th, 2026, the Jackson County Circuit Court upheld Missourians’ Constitutional Right to Reproductive Freedom, finding a number of politicians’ restrictions on abortion unconstitutional. People looking for accurate information about access to and support for abortion care right now can find it at INeedAnA.com and ReproLegalHelpline.org.

Statement from Maggie Olivia, Director of Policy and External Affairs: “Before Missouri voters stopped the last abortion ban in 2024, women miscarrying were turned away from emergency rooms, families facing tragedies like miscarriages of wanted pregnancies, or trying to get care after sexual assault, were denied needed care. Doctors were forced to wait for patients with dangerous pregnancy complications to get sicker before they could provide treatment— risking their health, future fertility, and lives. We can’t let that happen again.

I am a life-long Missourian, and I know that Missourians have nuanced feelings about abortion. But NO matter how Missourians personally feel, we do agree that politicians and lawyers shouldn’t get to make personal, private decisions that belong with patients and families. And politicians certainly shouldn’t get to just overturn any vote of the people that they don’t like. This is the Show Me State––and we will show those politicians that no means no when we vote NO on 3 and stop another abortion ban later this year. We’ll see them at the ballot box this NOvember.
